Everyone knows about generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) and OpenAI’s ChatGPT tool. But ChatGPT is just one of many generative AI tools. Other such tools optimize text, images, music, search results, language translation, and even computer code. Perhaps you have already used generative AI and discovered for yourself its benefits and its drawbacks.

Did you know that Adobe has incorporated generative AI into many of its products, including Adobe Experience Cloud (AEC) applications such as Adobe Experience Manager (AEM)? And that Adobe designed its AI to maximize benefits to you, while avoiding the drawbacks found in other AI applications?

This post describes Adobe’s approach to generative AI, then focuses on the benefits and features of Adobe’s new Adobe Sensei GenAI. We encourage you to use its speed, simplicity, and power to increase your organization’s responsiveness and revenue.

Generation AI: Adobe’s approach to generative artificial intelligence

Before diving into the technology, let’s look at how Adobe implemented generative AI. There are two ways that vendors can incorporate generative AI into their software offerings:

  • Software vendors can create new stand-alone generative AI tools that bring the power of generative AI to you. The stand-alone ChatGPT tool is the most famous example of this.
  • Alternatively, software vendors can incorporate generative AI into their existing applications.

Adobe has chosen the latter method. Incorporating AI into its already-existing applications reduces the learning curve for users. It simultaneously makes it easier for users to take advantage of AI capabilities.

Adobe markets its generative artificial intelligence offerings under the name Generation AI. This was introduced at the Adobe Summit 2023 in March. Adobe describes Generation AI as a “co-pilot” to assist users of Adobe’s existing products.

Today, the two main components of Generation AI are Adobe Firefly and Adobe Sensei GenAI. While this post focuses on Adobe Sensei GenAI, let’s take a moment to briefly discuss Adobe Firefly. This is the new creative generative AI engine incorporated into Adobe Photoshop. It lets you create and edit artwork with simple text prompts, then fine-tune the results using standard Adobe Photoshop functions. It makes your image creation faster, simpler, and more powerful.

Adobe Sensei GenAI and AEC

Now we turn to Adobe Sensei GenAI within AEC components, including AEM. Like Adobe Firefly, Adobe Sensei GenAI provides you with faster, simpler, and more powerful capabilities, as well as other benefits.

Speed via optimal processing

You know that one benefit of generative AI is the speed with which it responds to prompts. When equipped with Adobe Sensei GenAI, AEC applications deliver results much more quickly than an unassisted human. This lets you go to market much more quickly.

Simplicity via easy-to-use interfaces

You also benefit from simplicity of use. AEC applications access generative AI features via simple text prompts or command buttons, allowing even a non-expert to harness the power of generative AI.

Power via superior dataset training and testing

Speed and simplicity as mentioned above offer no benefit if they yield subpar results. But as detailed later in this post, AEC uses AI to optimize your marketing operations. These AI capabilties incorporate Adobe’s own datasets, trained and tested by Adobe’s AI experts.

Business protection via ethical design

Speed, simplicity, and power are not enough; business and support benefits are also important. Adobe’s native generative AI features were designed from the outset to support ethical use of artificial intelligence. Adobe has published its AI Ethics Principles (PDF), supporting the needs of your organization to use AI in accordance with responsibility, accountability, and transparency. This helps to shield your organization from issues arising from irresponsible use of AI, protecting your intellectual property and your reputation.

Full utilization via customer support

And of course you also benefit from Adobe’s unrivaled customer support. Unlike some free generative AI services that provide you with no support (you get what you pay for), Adobe provides full support for its AEC offerings and can help guide you in their best use.

Key Features of Adobe Sensei GenAI

Now that we’ve discussed the benefits of Adobe Sensei GenAI, let’s look at the features it provides.

Enhance Copy

From the Adobe Sensei GenAI page.

The first key feature is the ability to enhance copy. When you want to modify text for your assets, you don’t have to leave AEC applications and submit your text changes to an external, uncontrolled generative AI tool. Adobe provides you with simple commands to modify your text right within the application, accessing Adobe’s own trained and tested datasets. These simple commands let you rapidly summarize, elaborate, simplify, rewrite, or even change the tone of your text.

Automatically tag and crop your assets

AEC also automates much of the drudgery of maintaining your assets, using Adobe Sensei GenAI to manage assets in an intelligent way.

  • Smart Tag lets you avoid manually and laboriously tagging assets. Enhanced by AI and machine learning, Smart Tag analyzes your assets and automatically generates business-specific and descriptive tags.
  • Smart Crop optimizes your visual assets, using AI and machine learning to automatically detect the focal points in your images and crop them to feature the most relevant portions.

Both Smart Tag and Smart Crop save you hours of time, provide frictionless simplicity by performing their tasks automatically, and yield powerful results that improve your business responsiveness.

Once Adobe applies smart tags to images, AEM’s Omnisearch capability finds assets via visual search, even if no users have manually applied the relevant tags to the image asset. Adobe’s mathametical image processing also identifies visually similar images, discoverable via the “Find Similar” command.

Adobe’s visual search capabilties let your users identify the right visual assets quickly.

Implement expert scoring

The final feature is found in AEC’s Real-Time CDP (customer data platform). Among other things, Real-Time CDP provides predictive lead and account scoring, harnessing AI’s ability to identify the most likely sales leads. This allows your salespeople to concentrate on high-probability candidates, maximizing your company revenue and the revenue of your salespeople.

How can you take full advantage of Adobe Sensei GenAI?

AEC users can take advantage of the key features of Adobe Sensei GenAI today, since the capabilities are already deployed in AEC applications.
